Project #3 Experimental Clock - Getting Bald In My Twenties
Description
My inspiration of this experimental clock is from my daily life. As we all know, nowadays, people are living busy life under pressure. According to relevant investigations, more and more people are losing their hair because of under pressure of work or study. To reflect this social phenomenon, I decided to make a clock that remind people to have a break after long time study/work. This clock is made of a smiling face, the hair of this face is disappearing as time passes. Every hour a time the face becomes a bald.
Design Process
First, I drew three sketches. The first two is both about the nature. One is to use the position of Sun and Moon to express different time. The other one is to use the length of shadow to record time. At last, I decided to use the third sketch, a face with losing hair. The hair of face would disappear gradually as time passes. The reason I choose it mainly is that I think it is the most interesting one of the three. Besides, I believe that many people have empathy with me when it comes to hair loss. As long as we have a look at the soaring sales of hair care product, we should admit that hair loss is a really global problem. The original intention of the creation is to remind everyone to take a proper rest and don't be overwhelmed by pressure.
Reflection
During this assignment, I learned how to combine time into p5.js. I think it is a very useful method for we can record time and make practical things. Another thing I learned is that we can break the routine and break through the limitations of traditional cognition. A clock need not to have hands, there are many other things we can use to record or define our own time!
